Sandor Gyorke

Research interests

Dr. Gyorke's laboratory is interested in molecular mechanisms of excitation-contraction coupling and intracellular calcium handling in the heart. A comprehensive approach is used including life cell imaging, electrophysiology and adenovirus-mediated gene transfer to define the function of individual calcium regulatory proteins and how genetic defects in these proteins lead to altered calcium handling, arrhythmia and sudden death. Another line of studies is directed toward understanding the role of alterations in calcium signaling in heart failure.
