Research interests

Research area: Currently there are three research projects: (1) we are in the process of making a knock-in mouse model carrying a cocaine resistant functional dopamine transporter (DAT) to study the role of DAT in cocaine addiction; (2) in collaboration with the scientists and clinicians in the department of Psychiatry, we are screening patients with mental disorders for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in critical genes to uncover the genetic basis of certain mental disorders; (3) we have engineered a functional DAT construct with all reactive cysteine residues removed which allow us to study the 3-D structure of DAT, where cocaine binds, and potentially what new drugs can be developed to treat cocaine addiction.
