Research interests

The focus of research in Dr. Bumgardner?s laboratory is to elucidate mechanisms of immune recognition and destruction which target liver and pancreatic parenchymal cells. In addition, the laboratory is designing strategies to circumvent these mechanisms in order to protect liver cells and islet cells from immunologic damage under a variety of settings (alloimmunity, autoimmunity, and virally infected cells).
