Research interests

Dr. Chiocca's group has been interested in the biology and therapy of malignant tumors of the brain, such as glioblastoma. Currently funded NIH projects are: 1) studying the role of a number of genes involved in glioma and neural stem cell invasion and migration in normal brain in order to model brain tumor infiltration with computer simulations; 2) engineering tumor-killing viruses for experimental treatment of gliomas; and 3) understanding the role of the innate immune system and the host of stroma in gene-and viral-based therapies against these tumors.
