Research interests

Research Area: Dr. Birmingham?s research focuses on the genetic and biological basis for human immune complex diseases, such as the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus and various forms of immune complex nephritis. The current thrust of this research is the identification and characterization of polymorphic forms of complement, complement receptors, and Fc receptors as genetic risk factors for these diseases.
